This Uwitu Creative mid-year statement fills us with excitement as we get to share with the world what we’ve been up to and the incredible progress we’ve made.
Uwitu began as a dream to become the largest streaming platform in Africa. The name “Uwitu,” though made up, is derived from the Kikuyu word “wítú,” meaning “ours.” This reflects my vision of creating a platform that belongs to us as Kenyans and Africans, where we wouldn’t need to compete with international content. Over time, Uwitu aims to become the continent’s premier talent incubator.
Years of experimentation, marked by both victories and setbacks, have shaped our journey. Crucial to our vision is understanding and engaging creators. This pillar has seen significant growth; from partnering with a single influencer, we now collaborate with four, with more in the pipeline. We have explored the best ways to benefit both creators and their clients, leading to our investment in event organizing and execution. These experiences have been invaluable, and we look forward to hosting more creator oriented events in the future. Our background in communications and advocacy will be integral to our creator mentorship and training program, ensuring that our creators not only profit from their talents and skills but also contribute meaningfully to important societal conversations.
Investing in the development of complementary technology remains key to our future, we are committed to building an Afro-centric social platform that creators and users will love. In the coming months, we will launch more projects, events, training sessions, and content. You will witness a positive ripple effect on Kenyan and African content and media as we and our partners make strides.
Additionally, we will strengthen our advocacy wing, embedding it in all our work. We plan to produce more content, sign and collaborate with more influencers, and soon introduce you to the Uwitu mobile application. Stay tuned for exciting developments!
